A trip to Oregon to shoot waterfalls wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Proxy Falls outside of Sisters, Oregon. I had planned the day to hit Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls along Highway 126 in the morning and then follow Highway 242 to Proxy Falls and then on over to Sisters where I would stop for the night. I guess when you are only looking at a map while making a plan, that all makes perfect sense. I didn’t think about any roads being closed late in May! I made the turn onto Highway 242 and drove into snow. Nothing bad, but the road was covered. Fortunately it was open as far as the trailhead.

Of course, I was the only one silly enough to be out in a light rain on a road that was closed, which made for a peaceful hike along the snow covered trail. It is a loop trail which should take you to Upper Proxy Falls, then Proxy Falls, and back around to the trailhead (if you go backwards). It looked simple enough. Maybe it was the snow, but I had a hell of a time finding my way around. I was happy to finally come upon the upper falls and thought I would spend a little time there before finding the main falls. I had read that Upper Proxy Falls is nothing to get too excited about, but I found it to be pretty photogenic. The creek flows down into a small pool at the base that is surrounded by trees which makes it necessary to scramble up a ways to get a composition. With so many logs going in every direction, it was fun just playing with all the leading lines. I liked how this shot came out with the creek winding through the vibrant green logs. I am glad I found it!
